Bus Users has welcomed research from the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, examining the transport issues older people face when it comes to accessing health services.
The research, based on the experiences of hundreds of people across Wales, highlights the barriers to travel resulting from limited transport options and issues around quality, accessibility and reliability.
Responding to the report’s findings, Chief Executive of Bus Users and Disability and Access Ambassador to the bus industry, Claire Walters, said: “Good public transport and clear information is vital for people to access every aspect of life, including essential health services.
“While buses are now wheelchair-accessible, bus stops are not always so easy to use with bus times increasingly only available online. For public transport to be genuinely accessible, it needs to be planned in consultation with the widest range of people so we are all able to lead full and active lives.”
