New report examines the shape of changing bus demand in England

A new report has been published by the Independent Transport Commission, investigating how the bus market has changed over the past decade.

While the number of bus journeys outside of London is down, and the proportion of people using the bus has also fallen, there’s been a rise in the number of journeys made by existing bus users.

Claire Walters, Chief Executive of Bus Users has welcomed the report’s contribution to the transport debate: “Public transport is good for our health and the environment, but if it’s going to be a viable option it has to be appropriate, well-planned and prioritised.

“The promised national bus strategy is now urgently needed to overcome congestion, support communities and get us all moving again.”
