Bus Users has welcomed the Transport Committee’s new report on Bus Services in England. Published today, the report calls for a better deal for bus passengers, demonstrating value for money and reflecting the needs of passengers.
Claire Walters, Chief Executive of Bus Users UK, said: “During our evidence to the Transport Select Committee, we stressed the need for a national bus strategy that prioritises the needs of passengers. It’s gratifying to see that the report is so focused on the passenger: we look forward to working with government, at both a national and local level, to ensure that passengers remain at the heart of policy making.”
Chair of the Transport Committee, Lillian Greenwood MP said: “The Government has strategies on rail investment and road development; it is now time to bring forward a strategy for bus services outside London. Core to the strategy should be the desire to make bus services more passenger focused and provide value for money, helping to bring more people, especially young people, onboard. This will also bring benefits for air quality, cutting carbon emissions and reducing congestion.”
