New campaign from Transport Focus urges people to ‘Give Bus a Go’

People are being urged to ‘Give Bus a Go’ this September as part of a campaign to encourage more journeys by bus.

The campaign, run by Transport Focus and supported by Bus Users, kicks off as new research finds 25% of non-bus users would consider getting on board, and around a fifth of car journeys could be made by bus.

To promote the campaign, a group of people who live and work in the West Midlands but rarely or never use buses have pledged to Give Bus a Go in September.

Their experiences will be posted on social media and the outcomes will be used to highlight the benefits of bus travel and what operators can do to improve services.

Dawn Badminton-Capps, Bus Users Director for England said: “This is a great initiative to encourage non-bus users to get on board. Their experiences will help operators identify what works and what doesn’t when it comes to bus travel, so services can be improved for everyone.”

Research from Transport Focus has found that the top 3 priorities for people in the West Midlands are more frequent services, better punctuality and buses going to more of the places they want to get to. More than half of those surveyed also believe that buses can play a part in reducing air pollution.
