CPT has launched its new bus strategy for England which contains an ambitious vision for the industry.
‘Moving Forward Together’ reflects CPT’s determination to show how important the bus is in urban and rural settings, and particularly in terms of improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions.
The paper outlines the organisation’s vision for getting one billion more journeys taken by bus by 2030. It offers a range of commitments in return for government support, including only purchasing emission-free vehicles from 2025, discounted travel for job seekers and apprentices, and multi-operator, capped ticketing across all major urban centres by 2022, reducing one of the biggest anxieties experienced by passengers.
The strategy also reflects a desire to find better solutions to the problems faced by rural communities with few or no transport options.
Speaking from the launch event, Claire Walters, Chief Executive of Bus Users said: “We are looking forward to working with CPT members and the Department for Transport to help deliver on these commitments in England, and ensure that the needs of communities in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are met with the same intensity of focus.”
