The Chief Executive of Bus Users has expressed disappointment that this year’s Budget continues to incentivise private car use.
Speaking on the day of the Budget Statement for 2020, Claire Walters said: “Given the urgent social and environmental need to get people out of their cars and onto public transport, this Budget has been a missed opportunity.
“We would have liked to see a range of measures to encourage modal shift, including substantial increases in fuel duty for private cars and exemptions for bus and coach operators, including community transport operators, disabled drivers and taxi/car share schemes.
“If we are going to meet our climate change commitments, we need sticks as well as carrots.”
