The Welsh Government’s Legislative Programme has received a cautious welcome from passenger group Bus Users UK.
The programme, announced by Mark Drakeford AM, will focus on the critical value of bus services to education, employment and the economy, as well as the social fabric of Wales.
Barclay Davies, Bus Users Director for Wales, said: “While the focus on the importance of bus services is to be welcomed, there is a lack of detail as to how the proposals will be funded in the longer term.”
Funding cuts have already seen communities across Wales devastated by the withdrawal of bus services. According to Barclay Davies: “Passengers are really not concerned with how their services are delivered. What they want is an easy to understand network, simplified fares and ticketing, and better service frequencies to reflect changing work and lifestyle patterns.”
