Passenger needs at the heart of guidance on Bus Service Improvement Plans

The Department for Transport has produced guidance for Local Transport Authorities and local bus operators in developing their Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

BSIPs are a requirement under the new National Bus Strategy and the guidance aims to help LTAs produce ambitious BSIPs in order to access funding, improve services and encourage more people on board.

The guidance has been welcomed by Bus Users as it places passenger priorities at the heart of transport planning: “Ultimately, the aim of BSIPs is to identify and overcome barriers to using the bus. Effective local engagement is mandatory and should include local community and transport groups, MPs, businesses and, of course, passengers. Any passenger survey data should also be reported.”

Bus Users has reached out to Local Transport Authorities across England to offer support in local community engagement. If you’d like to know how we can support your Bus Service Improvement Plans get in touch
