Bus Users gives cautious welcome to new Covid recovery funding for bus services

Following urgent campaigns by organisations like Bus Users, Government has announced a final tranche of Covid Recovery Funding for bus and light rail services totalling £150 million to be paid over 6 months until October 2022.

Claire Walters, Chief Executive of Bus Users described the funding as a ‘good start’: “Bus services are under threat everywhere and that impacts all of our lives. Congestion and pollution will continue to rise as people are forced to use private cars and taxis, and more of us will experience loneliness and isolation.

“This additional funding is useful in staving off some of the cuts being planned by operators but we need long-term certainty to plan a sustainable and equitable future for our communities.”
